BeReal for Couples: What It Means and the Apps That Do It
October 28, 2026 · 4 min read
People who search for a BeReal for couples usually want the same small thing: one honest photo a day from the person they love, with nobody else watching. Here is what that means and the apps that do it.
We make Otay, a photo journal app for couples, so we are not neutral. Every other app below is described from its own website or App Store listing, checked on 28 October 2026.
What people mean by BeReal for couples
BeReal is a social app for sharing unposed photos with friends. When someone asks for a BeReal for couples, they tend to mean four things: a daily photo, an unpolished one, only two people in the audience, and something to look back on. No feed, no followers, no performing.
Not every app below copies BeReal’s way of working. Some give you a prompt instead of a surprise, and some let you post any time. Treat BeReal for couples as a short way of saying one real photo a day, in private.
The options
Candle
Candle is a wider couples app with questions, games, thumb kisses and date ideas. Its listing describes daily photo prompts as real-time snapshots like BeReal, just for the two of you, building a private photo journal. It is rated 4.8 from about 11,700 ratings on the US App Store, and rated 18+. Good if you want games and questions with a photo. Otay vs Candle.
DAYUS
DAYUS asks each of you for one photo a day with a short note, and keeps your partner’s photo sealed until you post yours. No prompt, a calendar, a widget and comments. iPhone only, and a new app with no ratings yet. Otay vs DAYUS.
Locket Widget
Locket puts photos from up to 20 friends on your Home Screen, instantly. It works for a couple, but it is a friends app, and it has no daily prompt. Otay vs Locket.
Pairloom, Rhy and Twofinds
Three newer apps with a similar idea. Pairloom turns each photo into a card with a note and stickers on the back. Rhy is a journal with a calendar, a map and monthly collages. Twofinds gives one prompt a day and also takes camera roll photos. All are young and have few ratings. See Pairloom, Rhy and Twofinds.
Otay
Otay gives you both the same small photo quest every day. You answer with a back-camera photo and a selfie, a caption and a place, and the two answers sit side by side in a private journal with a photo calendar, a map and throwbacks. It is iPhone only (iOS 17 or later), free to use every day with no ads, and one optional Premium subscription covers both of you. It does not take camera roll photos, and it is not a chat app.
